Amboise has a varied and sufficient selection of hotels, but most of those right in the center are bed-and-breakfast houses with only a few rooms, or quite small hotels, or apartments/flats and deluxe villa properties. If you want to stay in the center, within walking distance of all the sights, restaurants and shopping, you should reserve your room well in advance.

If you don't mind staying some distance from the center, you'll have more choice of prices and availability. Noticeably missing in Amboise are those modern, characterless chain hotels, but here they are not missed!

Bed & Breakfast Houses

You may notice nothing more than the name or Chambre d'hôtes on the mailbox or doorbell, so these gems of Amboise lodging are hidden until you arrive, but you'll discovercentral locations within walking distance of everything, comfortable guest rooms with private bathrooms, and personal attention. The only disappointment? Each has few rooms, and may be fully booked if you don't make your reservations well in advance.

The Villa Eve, 14 rue de la Concorde, is across the street from the Château d'Amboise in a hôtel particulier, a private mansion hidden from the street by high walls and sturdy steel doors. Through the doors is a pleasant, quiet garden courtyard and a grand old house with ample high-ceiling public rooms and guest rooms with modern bathrooms. Patrice and Geneviève, the welcoming owners, speak English and take good care of you. The location is superb, just off the river and a few minutes' stroll from the place Michel Debré. More...

Other good central B&Bs include the nearby 4-room Les Fleurons B&B, the two apartments at the Côté Château, and the 3-room Villa Roma B&B. The Gîte de la rivière is an apartment sleeping up to four people. Check them all out—and more—right here.

Mid-Range Hotels

Of the medium-priced hotels in the center of Amboise, we like the 2-star, 27-room Hôtel Le Blason because it is in a 15th-century house of white plaster and oak beams, within an easy walk of the center and right next to our favorite Amboise restaurant, L'Alliance. More...

The closest hotel to the Gare d'Amboise SNCF (train station) is the 2-star, 14-room Logis Hôtel-Restaurant Le Breche, only a one-minute stroll from the trains. All rooms come with private bathrooms, and the restaurant is fine for good meals. More...

Deluxe Hotels

The 4-star, 32-room Hôtel Le Choiseul is first choice for luxury because of its Loire riverfront location within walking distance of the center, its heated outdoor swimming pool and gardens, and its wine cellar stocked with fine Loire vintages. More...

The 4-star, 20-room Le Clos d'Amboise is a 17th-century mansion set in a spacious garden with a heated outdoor swimming pool, a sauna, and a bar and restaurant only 500 meters (a 6-minute walk) south of place Michel Debré. More...

The 15-room Manoir du Parc, 500 meters southeast of place Michel Debré and the Château d'Amboise, offers guest rooms, suites and cottages, all enjoying the use of the outdoor heated swimming pool. More...

The 4-star, 8-room Le Pavillion des Lys is a luxury mansion hotel within walking distance of everything in Amboise, offering a variety of accommodations from traditional rooms to lavish suites. More...
