Paris Travel Planner   Richelieu Wing, Louvre, Paris, France
The Richelieu Wing offers decorative arts/royal apartments, French sculptures in open courtyards, and arts of Islam, Mesopotamia, and ancient Iran.

The Richelieu wing seems to be the least crowded of the three wings of the Louvre, perhaps because it doesn't include any of the "big name" works of art that are found in the Denon or Sully wings. Nonetheless, it has many treasures to explore.

The apartments of Napoléon III: Although he never actually lived here, the apartments reflect his style. See sumptuous rooms with super high ceilings, gigantic chandeliers, magnificent painted ceilings, towering drapes, and LOTS of gold.

Cour Marly/French sculptures : This wonderful sculpture garden contains French sculptures from the 5th to the 18th century. It is a large open space that provides a tranquil place to rest and reflect—and rest your weary feet.

Cour Puget/French sculptures : The Richelieu wing boasts not one but two sculpture terraces. This one includes French sculpture of the 18th and 19th centuries. The cours are also visible from the Passage Richelieu, one of the entrances to the Louvre.

Decorative arts: from the Middle Ages through the 19th century.

French paintings: Older paintings, from the 14th to the 17th century

German, Flemish, and Dutch paintings
