Paris Travel Planner   Jardins du Trocadéro, Paris, France
The gardens in front of the Palais de Chaillot, opposite the Eiffel Tower, don't figure in most visitors' plans, which is a pity: they're here, they're nice, and convenient.

The Jardins du Trocadéro enclose parts of the Palais de Chaillot, facing the Eiffel Tower on the opposite (Right Bank) of the Seine (map).

From the Palais de Chaillot you can get wonderful views of the Eiffel Tower. This is a particularly popular viewing spot at night, when the tower is illuminated. Daytime views are also great.

In a way, the 9.39-hectare (23-acre) Jardins du Trocadéro, descending from Place du Trocadéro and the Palais de Chaillot to the River Seine, are a continuation of the vast, flat Champ-de-Mars, the former military parade ground that extends from the École Militaire to the Eiffel Tower.

The huge Fontaine de Varsovie (Warsaw Fountain) extending through the center of the park has 46 water-jet spouts and 20 powerful water cannons. Aimed southwest toward the Eiffel Tower, the cannons shoot jets of water 50 meters (55 yards):

The Jardins include various small parks and shady walks, as well as a carousel (Merry-Go-Round) for the kids.

And there always seems to be plenty of activity on the esplanade leading down toward the Seine and across to the Eiffel Tower.
