The Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) of Paris, on the Right Bank just beside the Seine, is ornate, impressive, and well worth a look if you're passing nearby (map). If you visit Le Marais, you can see the Hôtel de Ville at the same time, as Le Marais is all east of the Hôtel de Ville. This is the city hall for metropolitan Paris. Each arrondissement (city division) has its own mairie (city hall) to oversee local matters.
